Northwest Arkansas Outdoors for Labor Day

You can make your own outdoor fun for Labor Day weekend — what better time to take a hike, go boating or fishing, or check out some sweet bouldering spots?

But there are also some outdoor events going on for Labor Day 2017 in Northwest Arkansas. Check it out!

Get out and play!

Bentonville’s First Fridays has a Western theme this Friday with Sugar Creek Days on the Bentonville Square starting at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept.1. There are old-fashioned outdoor games like the Egg and Spoon Race and Sack Races, plus some Wild West desperadoes.

Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park there’s Trifest, including several triathlon opportunities at different levels of challenge, and a kids’ triathlon, too. Trifest supports research on muscular sclerosis. It’s also among the top triathalon events in the nation.

Get further afield

Lake Ft. Smith is just a little bit to the south, and from August 30 to the 7th they’re celebrating Legacy Week. They have special hikes and family-friendly activities. Soak up a little history along with your sun and fun.

Hobbs State Park, on Hwy 12 near Eureka Springs, is always a great place to visit. On Sept. 9th, Mother Nature is going to stop by for her monthly visit with stories and crafts for the kids. There will also be kayak tours over the weekend, and there’s 32 miles of multipurpose trail for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.

Go to the fair!

Going to the fair isn’t a sport, no matter how much time you spend outdoors, but you can get in plenty of walking. If you usually get your fresh air out in nature, consider changing it up by attending one of the fairs happening this weekend.

The Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair is one of the most popular local craft fairs, and there’s plenty to do and to enjoy. It starts bright and early at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 5th and runs through the 7th, at Battlefield State Park. You’ll find a nice hiking trail, too!

Washington County Fair runs Sept 1-5th at the fairgrounds in Fayetteville. There’s a midway, lots of livestock and exhibits to explore, and old fashioned fun all around.

War Eagle Mill has a Labor Day Celebration on Sept. 7th with music and pulled pork sandwiches at the Bean Palace. War Eagle is a beautiful natural setting and there are good walks around the area.
