Instead of randomly stuffing waste in pack pockets and compartments, carry a trash bag to keep discarded wrappers, used athletic tape, etc. consolidated. Remember to always pack out what you pack in.

You might not always need moleskin, but you will be glad you have it when you do need it. Cover blisters and hot spots with moleskin to keep trucking on the trail.

Being out in nature when nature calls can present some challenges. Pack some toilet paper in a resealable plastic bag just in case.

Hang nails can drive you crazy, and too long toe nails can cause some real discomfort. Bring a pair of finger nail clippers to stay comfortable and sane while hiking.

Spending several hours in the sun can take a toll on your skin. Don’t forget to bring the sunscreen.

A pair of sunglasses will keep your eyes safe from sun, flying insects, and low hanging branches, and they will also help preserve your vision during daylight hours.

Athletic tape is a great addition to any pack. You can use it to cover blisters and small cuts, fix gear, and any time you might need an adhesive.

This isn’t so much a thing that people forget to do while hiking as it is a something that people forget to do while hiking. Always check the weather before stepping foot on the trail.
