The Things You Need After Christmas

Carrot batteryThere’s nothing in this world more disheartening than opening a present on Christmas morning and learning that the batteries are not included. It’s a fate that should be wished upon no man (or woman, or child). You have the ecstatic high of opening the gift followed by the crippling low of having to wait until tomorrow to go to the store and purchase batteries.

Instead of enjoying your new gadget, you’re forced to make do with your other presents and stave off the unbearable boredom while your battery-less gift taunts you from an unused corner of the room. The sun is shackled behind a thick and gloomy wall of clouds, everything you eat tastes like grief, and the sounds of a lonely violin can be heard playing a sad lamentation in the distance. And you envy that violinist because they didn’t need batteries to enjoy their present.

Needless to say, the best gifts are the ones that don’t need batteries. With the exception of headlamps and some water purifiers, most outdoor and camping items don’t require batteries. Your brand new multiool or your shiny new backpack are good to go right out of the box. Even gifts that don’t take batteries might need some extra pieces, though.

It’s not necessarily the case that those gifts won’t work without additional equipment, but sometimes you don’t realize what you’re missing until you get new gear. Let’s say that you define camp cooking as hot dogs and sticks. If you get a camp stove for Christmas, you’re probably going to want to get a camping cook set, or maybe a percolator for coffee, or perhaps a windscreen to make that new stove work better.

Maybe you received a new hiking backpack for Christmas. Obviously, there are no batteries required and your pack is ready to be used immediately, but now you might find yourself wanting a waterproof pack cover so you can keep your belongings dry while hiking in the rain. If you’ve never owned a large multi-day pack before, you might also find yourself needing a new pair of hiking boots that are better suited for extended backpacking trips.

We even carry waterproof cases that will protect your more delicate, battery-dependent belongings. If you need any camping add-ons or camping accessories to make your gear closet complete, we’ve got you covered. Stop by and see us to pick up whatever Santa missed.
