Glow Sticks

FloresceinHalloween is coming up this weekend, which means costumes, parties, and trick-or-treating. We have plenty of items that can help take your costume to the next level. Whether you need a pair of combat boots for your Dog The Bounty Hunter costume, or the perfect pair of aviators for your spy get-up, we can help you out.

While you’re picking out the pieces for your costume, remember to grab a few glow sticks.

Glow sticks are extremely useful on Halloween. They can act as special effects on your costume, as decorations for your Halloween shindig, and as safe lights in your Jack o’ Lanterns. Poke them into the ground along your walkway for visibility without lowering the spooky coolness level. Tuck them into trees in pairs to suggest glowing eyes… take it

They can even be used as a safety measure. Kids love trick-or treating, but they can sometimes get a little overzealous. When it’s dark out, drivers can’t see. Glow sticks are a fun way to keep kids safe while out and about on Halloween.

Also known as chemical lights, glow sticks were first patented back in 1965. Most glow sticks consist of a transparent plastic tube with a thin glass vial suspended inside of it. When you bend a glow stick, you break the glass vial, and the chemical that was inside the vial mixes with the chemical that was suspending the vial. Those two chemicals, along with dye, react to create a temporary light source.

Chemical lights are used by EMTs, search and rescue, and police, as readily available emergency light sources. Cavers, and the occasional hiker, might bring glow sticks along with them on their outings in case of an emergency situation. They are lightweight and packable, and do not require any type of battery or power, which makes them perfect “just in case” items.

Even though glow sticks have practical uses, they are also just plain fun. Stop by and pick some up while you’re out and about putting the final touches on your Halloween costume!
