Outdoor Research and the Infinity Guarantee

fallsThere are a lot of reasons to like Outdoor Research, and one of the most notable is their “infinity guarantee”

Outdoor Research is based out of famously rainy Seattle, Washington, and was founded in 1981 by Ron Gregg. Gregg was a physicist and avid outdoor enthusiast. He was prompted to start designing outdoor gear after a failed summit in Denali. He and his partner had been prepared for their trip, but the trip ended short when Gregg’s partner had to be airlifted out of the park. His partner had suffered frostbite due to a pair of faulty gaiters. This event helped drive Gregg to create performance outdoor gear to the highest standard.

Gregg continued to make, test, and sell quality gear for over two decades. In 2003 Gregg was killed in an avalanche while testing gear. Gregg’s dedication to putting his company’s gear through its paces is a testament to the gear itself. He didn’t draw up gaiters and jackets, throw some color swatches on them and call it a day. He wanted to be sure that the products he produced were going to fulfill their purpose.

Outdoor Research still puts their products through grueling tests, whether it’s in the lab or through their sponsored athletes. OR is so confident in the quality of their gear that they even offer an “infinity guarantee” on all of their products. That means if you buy a rain jacket from Outdoor Research and one day you feel a little moisture around the seams, they will replace it for you.

Many companies claim a “lifetime guarantee” but are a little strict in defining “lifetime” and “guarantee”. This is straight off the warranty page from OR’s website:

“We believe so strongly in the quality of the apparel and gear we make that if our product fails to meet your needs at any time, we are happy to replace it. Our products are guaranteed forever, and your total satisfaction with our product is our goal.”

And they mean it. A customer of ours who had experience with the warranty department at OR said they only asked him two questions when he was trying to replace a defective item: What size and what color?

Uncle Sam’s is proud to carry Outdoor Research products. Come by the store and let us show you the range.
