Ways to Celebrate the Earth Year Round

"Earth Day event on the National Mall" by NASA Goddard Space Flight CenterEvery year on April 22, we celebrate the Earth, do a bit of public cleanup, and think about being more green. But by April 23, many people have moved on and don’t think much more about what they can do to help support our Earth and keep it clean. Instead of letting it all go by the wayside, here’s some ideas on how to make every day Earth Day.

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse

There are countless things you can do to reduce waste in your life, from using a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic bottle to using food scraps for compost in your garden. Don’t be green just on Earth Day! Instead, make it part of your daily routines to try to remove as much waste as you can from your life and support products and companies that do the same. We carry a lot of brands that focus on giving back by reducing what they need to produce their goods or working on environmental efforts.

Use Power Strips

We love technology as much as the next person but all those appliances can suck up a ton of electricity when they’re not even on. Phantom electricity usage can not only increase your energy bill but it wastes electricity you don’t need. Instead of pulling electricity, plug your appliances into power strips and turn them off when they’re not in use. If you forget, position the power strips near the power buttons to help you remember.

Reduce Plastics

We’re sure you use fabric bags for your groceries (right?) but do you take your lunch with you to work in plastic sandwich bags? You can cut down on plastic waste and the energy and resources used to make them by using reusable food containers. The same goes for produce bags you use at the grocery store too!

Buy Quality Products

We sell a lot of different types of camping, hiking, and outdoor gear but focus on quality. Why? Because when you buy quality products, you waste less. If you buy a pack that just isn’t great quality, you’ll inevitably break it and have to throw that one away to buy another one. When you buy a quality pack, you’ll save yourself money in the long run and reduce waste. It’s a win-win for you and the environment!

Little things add up over time so don’t forget that Earth Day isn’t just one day during the year but every day.
