Cure for the Post-Spring Break Blues: Summer Trip Planning

"Mason's Rock" by Mike BeauregardIt’s back to school and work this week for lots of us in Northwest Arkansas. But it may also be the start of Spring Fever!  The best cure for the post-Spring Break blues is planning some great summer trips.

Here’s some inspiration for your plans.

Top Five Summer Trips for 2014

  1. Alaska is a great place to visit in the summer. Hiking, climbing, kayaking, and all manner of outdoor activities are perfect for the taking in summertime in Alaska. From Juneau to Skagway, summer means warmer temperatures and less snow so you can enjoy being outside instead of freezing your toes off.
  2. Lake Tahoe is a ski bunny’s paradise in winter but in summer it’s lake, lake, and more lake. There’s tons of hiking trails and camping sites around the lake and with the water right nearby, you can go for refreshing dips when summer temperatures start to soar.
  3. The Grand Canyon is a popular tourist destination once summer really gets rolling but plan your trip right and you can avoid major crowds without broiling in the summer heat. It takes a lot of planning to pull off so you should start now! Be sure to also check out other nearby sights, like Antelope Canyon that is just as impressive but carved by sand instead of water.
  4. The Outer Banks in North Carolina turn into an outdoor lover’s paradise in summer. With miles and miles of seashore and parks that offer spectacular views into the unique wildlife of the outer banks, there’s plenty of hiking, surf, and nature loving to go around.
  5. Canada is often forgotten when it comes to outdoor adventures and summertime makes it worth a visit. Cold temperatures are gone and things come to life. Try the St. Lawrence or Prince Edward Island for maritime based adventure or forget Niagara Falls and go to Nahanni Park for even more impressive waterfalls.
