2 Ways to Save on New Gear

Imperfect SocksFor many gear enthusiasts, dropping a good deal of money on the latest isn’t a problem—it’s part of the fun. For others, it’s just as much fun to track down great bargains. And when you have a tight budget for adventure, it’s important to get the most for your money.

There are hundreds of ways to save on gear and Uncle Sam’s is happy to help.

For example, we have a big sale coming up from February 20 through 23, bringing you some great deals on everything from Kavu (up to 50% off) to Deuter, knives to winter warmers like socks and gloves.

What if there’s no sale going on? We often have some serious bargains anyway!

  • Sample Sizes

Sample size products aren’t any different from the regular products… except in size. Clothing manufacturers make the first batch of new goods in sample sizes for use in outdoor shows, photo shoots, and to show to store buyers. The chosen size varies from one company to another, but it’s often the most average size, such as a women’s size 8 in clothing or a men’s size 9 in shoes. The next season, most companies have a few of each of their designs in sample sizes left, and sometimes we buy them up so we can pass the savings on to you. Right now we have plenty of Teva sandals in women’s 7 and men’s 9, and you can get them at a great discount.

  • Irregulars

Sometimes there are issues with quality that don’t affect the performance of a piece of gear but they still keep the item from meeting the manufacturer’s standards. If we see a chance to save you money with great products that are slightly irregular, we’ll snap them up and pass the savings on to you. For instance, we currently have some WigWam socks that have been classified “imperfect.” The issue can be as simple as the socks having a slight hanging thread or being slightly too long. It doesn’t affect your feet at all, however, so you can save by buying high quality items with slight issues. Just be sure that you inspect the item fully before committing so you know you’re pleased with the quality. Sometimes you can’t even tell the difference between the perfect and imperfect items!
