Free Day Admission on President’s Day

If you’ve been meaning to check out a local federal park or day-use area lately, today is the day! On President’s Day and all weekend all federal day-use areas and parks have free entry to celebrate the holiday. Where will you go? There are lots of areas nearby in Northwest Arkansas that usually have day-use fees that you can visit for free today to enjoy the outdoors.

Beaver Lake is the recreational destination with the most day-use areas in Northwest Arkansas so if you have a favorite spot that’s behind a gate you can check it out for free today. While many of them might be unmanned during the winter months, they’re pretty popular and busy once the weather warms up. With higher temperatures this weekend than in past weeks they were pretty busy.

Camping isn’t usually permitted during the winter at many of these sites and they’ll open back up for service around April but if you’re planning on doing some camping you can scope out the best spots now and reserve them well in advance. Of course if you don’t ever want to pay another day-use fee again there are annual and lifetime membership passes to Corp parks for a discounted rate. Military and disabled persons can obtain passes for discounted and free rates too so be sure to check out the program if you use Corp parks regularly.

Not all of us have the day off but many schools are out for the day. Take the kids out for a hike to enjoy nature and get some fresh air or take the dog for a run!
