La Casa Pollo Climbing Gym

out-of-reach-by-elPadawanAlthough the weather has been beautiful outside this month, it’s certainly starting to cool down for the winter. As temperatures drop, climbing on rock can make your fingers hurt and your grips not quite as strong. And boy, can it get chilly. The alternative is indoor climbing. If you’re new to climbing and aren’t yet skilled enough to take on outdoor climbs safely, climbing gyms are a great way to start. La Casa Pollo, located just outside of Fayetteville near Lake Sequoyah, is a great place to start.

La Casa Pollo is a private climbing gym, meaning that members pay dues and monthly fees to use the facilities but then get to climb as much as they want. First timers pay $7 for a one time trial period, after which they need to join the club to use the facility. Current rates are $10 in annual dues and then $35 per month, $175 for six months, or $350 for a year. You can always check out the current rates on their website. Once you’ve joined up, mi Casa Pollo es su casa!

Founded by Richard Rhuland, La Casa Pollo is known for interesting problems with a constant variety. Richard and his crew change up their problems often so that way there’s always something to stay engaged as a climber. One of the biggest complaints about gyms is that they get boring when compared to outdoor climbing out on a crag. Truth be told, gyms can be just as interesting if done well.

La Casa Pollo is an interesting place, too, with unique architecture set in a beautiful spot. The feeling of camaraderie is notable, too.

If you’re looking for a new winter roost for your climbing addiction, check out La Casa Pollo. It’s well worth a visit once to see if it’s a good fit for you. It’s popular with younger climbers too because it’s a safe and comfortable environment to improve skills before taking on bigger, more challenging climbs.
