Boating this 4th? Stay Safe!

boating-4th-july-jondejongOne of the most popular outdoor activities for the 4th of July is boating. In fact, it’s the most on-the-water traffic day of the year! And a lot of people go out on their boats at night to see fireworks who don’t normally go boating at night. We’ve rounded up some great safety tips for all our boating friends this holiday so be sure to use these tips when you’re out on the water:

  • Always wear a life jacket. Even if you’re a good swimmer, if you go overboard and are unconscious from hitting your head on something, no amount of good swimming abilities will help you. Be sure to always wear a life jacket when you’re out on the water, even if it detracts from the fun of the day.
  • Be sure to fill up before heading out for a day of boating if you’re in a motorized boat.
  • Tell a friend where you’re going. No matter if you’re boating, floating, or just going for a swim, it’s a good idea to tell a friend your plans in case something should happen.
  • Use caution, be courteous, and use common sense.
  • Don’t mix boating with alcohol. If you’re captain of the ship, you should stay sober just like if you were driving a car.

We hope you have a fun and safe 4th of July! Don’t forget, we’re open tomorrow with a special 4th sale with 1/4th off everything in the store. If you’re headed out on your boat, be sure to stop by and grab an EcoPod or EcoExtreme so you can listen to your music while you’re on the water without an worries!
