Memorial Day Adventure for Families

waterfallWe’re open today from 9-4 so if you’re not out playing, you can stop by to stock up on gear. But if you’re looking for a quick day adventure for the holiday today, it’s a great day to go look at waterfalls. With all the rain we got last week, there are plenty of waterfalls that are still flowing here in Northwest Arkansas. The Triple Falls are a good option for a local hike that’s perfect for a day trip and a short hike.

Two of the three falls are fed by a fresh water spring. The third, however, is a run-off flow that only occurs during wet times. And depending on how long you’d like to hike for, you can access this falls from two different ways. The first and least walk intensive is the approach from Camp Orr. The other 4.4-mile long hike goes through two 500-foot elevation changes that might leave you out of breath but offers some great views of rock formations and pools.

To access the longer hike, venture to the back of the Kyle’s Landing campground and stick to the trail that will take you through the rock formations, down a gully and back up, and then to the top of the falls where the natural spring that feed the falls is located.

For a short hike after a long drive from Northwest Arkansas, you can venture down to Camp Orr on a spur off the road to Kyle’s Landing and take the short walk to the base of the falls. This way to get to the falls is more popular but not recommended for cars without all-wheel drive as the dirt road can be rough.

If you’re looking for more waterfalls, we’ve got Tim Ernst’s book in stock — it’ll show you exactly where you can find waterfalls in Arkansas and how to hike to them!
