New Gear Alert! Boreas Packs in Stock

Boreas-lost-coast-packWe just got a new shipment of gear in the store but we’re really excited about one new brand, Boreas. We’ve got a bunch of new packs in from them and want to introduce you to a really unique new pack company.

Boreas was born in 2010 out of the mind of Tae Kim, an Alaskan native who worked for North Face as the design director for eight years. After a long stint with them, he decided to branch off and make his own company to face the problems he saw with outdoor gear. Boreas packs look like nothing else–they’re simple and minimalist but super functional. They look like a little cocoon on your back and fit like a bug in a rug.

Boreas hiking backpacks Buttermilks 55 and Lost Coast 60 both won the 2012 Backpackers Editor’s Choice awards because if their unique design. While being really lightweight, Boreas packs keep you cool with a washer-board style piece of foam that lies on your back. It allows air to flow while still keeping the weight close to your body so you have great balance. The other notable difference between Boreas packs is the straps to cinch it all in. Instead of being straight across, they’re angled to bring the weight closer to your body and compact it towards you, instead of just squishing it all together in a bundle.

Pack fabrics are injected with silicone instead of polyurethane to keep it lightweight and waterproof, without damaging the fabric over time. Instead of your pack becoming brittle after years of use, it’ll hold it’s shape and waterproofing. Boreas packs are extremely reasonable, both in pricing and design.
