Backpacks for Back to School

packs for students“Back to School” usually means the beginning of the school year, in August or September. For millions of  students and teachers, though, school is about to start again.

For some of you (or your kids), the backpack you’ve been carrying for years is now falling apart, or the one you bought in September is killing your back, or it’s just time to choose something that expresses you better.

There are so many different kinds of packs and carriers for school that there is definitely a pack for every student (and teacher). The fact that there are so many options can make things harder, though — how do you choose?

First, think about how you plan to use the pack, or how your child will. Are you lugging lots of books, so that you need to pay a lot of attention to the degree of support and how well the pack balances weight on the hips and back? Or is it more of a fashion accessory, carrying a few small items while books stay at home or in a locker?

Even if you don’t plan to carry heavy loads, choose the right size of pack for your frame. Let the knowledgeable staff at Uncle Sam’s help you find the pack that fits just as it should. A poorly fitted pack can be uncomfortable even with just a book or two. Notice your child’s posture if you’re shopping for your kids — hunching forward to balance the weight of the pack is a sign of an ill-fitting pack or weigh too much weight in the pack. Backpacks made just for kids can be a better choice, and many of our suppliers make good quality smaller packs.

Form follows function, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look good with your pack. At Uncle Sam’s, we have everything from military surplus to fashion-oriented packs from Kavu. You never have to choose between good looks and good quality.
