Hike the Buffalo Month

Recently, we told you a little bit about the history of our local gem, the Buffalo National River. So now we’re sure you’re eager to get out and experience it for yourself, right? Well you’re in luck! November is “Hike the Buffalo Month”, with a different trail being hiked each Saturday during the month. There is a leader for each hike, and they are free to the public. They are rated “easy” so they’re great for a family outing.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Nov. 3 — Buffalo River Trail Guided by Cindy Miller
  • Nov. 10 — Hawks Bill Crag Trail Guided by Rick Hinterthuer
  • Nov. 17 — Lost Valley Trail Guided by Cindy Miller
  • Nov. 24 — Steel Creek Trail Guided by Howard Kuff

You may have noticed how the trees have suddenly become photo-worthy around Northwest Arkansas, and this is the perfect opportunity to get out and fill a memory card with images for your next family scrapbook page. Come in and let us find a topographic map for your hike, and fix you up with a new water carrier and some warm socks.

Organizers suggest that you allow for three hours of hiking, plus travel time. For more information call Cindy Miller at (870) 391-3523 or the Harrison Convention & Visitors Bureau at (870) 741-1789. The hikes are sponsored by the Harrison (Ark.) Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education, Healthy Kids Healthy Ozarks program.
