Point 6 Socks

We’ve written before about the wonders of wool socks, but we have some particularly wonderful wool socks on hand right now.

Point 6 — named for 98.6, the human body temperature, in honor of the the temperature stabilizing properties of wool — makes what they say are the “best wool socks ever.”

Part of this is the quality of the wool. Point 6 uses merino wool, from the merino sheep which is known for producing a particularly soft, fine grade of wool. Merino wool is also very strong. Like all wool, it has the ability to absorb water vapor from your skin (a lot of it, actually) without feeling wet or losing its ability to keep you warm. It also repels water in its liquid form, so rain and snow stay away from your skin.

This means that you stay warm and dry, not cold and clammy, and you also won’t have to deal with smelly, damp feet.

Sheep wear wool all year long, not just in winter, so you won’t be surprised to hear that the temperature regulating properties of wool make wool a good choice in warm weather, too. Ready evaporation of water vapor from the fibers and the ability of wool to absorb moisture mean that your feet stay dry and comfortable in wool socks when synthetics would leave you with sweaty, clammy socks.

Point 6 doesn’t just knit up wool socks, though. They engineer sport-specific products for skiing, cycling, hiking, running, and more. Each sock is designed with ventilation panels where ventilation is needed, support where support is needed, and full-fashioned fit.

Come to Uncle Sam’s today and choose the best socks for your outdoor life and indoor comfort.
