Biolite Stoves

We saw the Biolite stove at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, and got excited.

We remember when it was first in development, and it was pretty exciting as a campstove at the time. You can see its picture at left, and you can tell that it’s pretty cool.

Biolite camp stoves convert fallen wood not only into heat to cook your campfire meals, but also into electricity to charge your phone and iPod. There’s less waste, since the excess heat goes to produce electricity.

Clean, safe, renewable energy is the result, and it’s hard to argue with that. But there’s more. The campstoves help to fund HomeStoves, which provide cleaner, safer energy for people in developing countries around the world.

That’s a side benefit you can feel really good about.

The Biolite stove is a reasonable investment for active backpackers or camping families. We haven’t made a final decision about carrying them at Uncle Sam’s, but we’re interested in your input on that. Of course, you can order them online from the manufacturer, but we think you might like to be able to see and lift them — and to carry them out to your next overnight without waiting.

Let us know how you feel about the Biolite. More information at the Biolite website.
